Tuesday September 19th Wrap Up

We started the class with a powerpoint showing different figurative artists work and surface treatments. I asked you to take notes and look the ones that interest you up and bring images of surface you'd like to try on your 6 heads.
I also gave you an evaluation sheet which tells you exactly how you will be graded on this project. Look it over and make sure you are hitting all of the objectives.

The deadline for your heads has been pushed back to October 3rd. That gives you an extra week and 2 weekends to figure our surface and really push your skill level with representation. Make sure to use the time wisely and know that next week you will have very little in class time to work.

This Thursday, bring in several images (printed in color) with notes on the specific materials and methods you're planning to use for your heads.  I am open to non-fired surfaces, this does not mean mixed media or found objects... so for example: ink, wax, acrylic, graphite = ok. Wire, fabric, paper, hair, = NOT ok.

Just like your building techniques, gesture, placement and texture you should use a variety of glaze, underglaze/slip and non-fired/cold method techniques. Use a variety of materials and methods on your 3 sets of doppelgangers and think how color and texture can help direct content or push understanding of doppelganger pair. In other words feel free to use cold finish methods on one set of heads, but not all of them. The forms of your heads should be all clay. Mixed media is only for surface 2d surface.

Learn to set a schedule of checking into the blog at least 2 times per week for class summaries, resources and inspiration. See you all Thursday!
